Since 2002
Our Story
Proformance Unlimited was founded in 2002 by Doug Mascaritola, but the story starts much earlier. At 13, Doug was already learning the trade in his family’s machine shop. What began as a kid’s job became a lifelong craft and, eventually, a way of life.
Doug met Steve Lejda when Steve was 15. A year later, Doug took him under his wing and began teaching him the trade, the same way Doug had learned it himself. Steve brought something extra to the shop: a strong background in computer programming and electronics, which he studied in high school. That combination of hands-on machine work and technical know-how fits right in with today’s electronically controlled engines.
Our first shop opened in Ocean, New Jersey, and we outgrew it quickly. In 2007 we moved into a larger facility in Freehold, NJ, where the business kept growing.
In 2015, two big changes came together. Steve became Doug’s business partner, and after one too many New Jersey winters, they decided it was time for warmer weather. Proformance Unlimited relocated to Melbourne, Florida, where Doug and Steve have built the company into what it is today.
